Symphonie historique, érotique, Jours d’Alexandrie nous immerge dans la première moitié du 20ème siècle. Où qu’ils soient, ses multiples personnages gardent un lien viscéral avec Alexandrie, Babel des temps modernes.

Trois figures emblématiques en sont les chefs d’orchestre : Antonis HARAMIS, le Grec issu des milieux pauvres d’Athènes, devenu industriel du tabac le plus riche d’Egypte ; Elias KHOURI, le « Libanais », manipulateur et polyglotte et Yvette SANTON, sa complice, une femme libre d’origine française.

Chronique de trois générations, chacune épouse une période de l’histoire mondiale, jusqu’à l’ascension au pouvoir de Nasser et les nationalisations qui s’ensuivent.

On voyage de Constantinople à Marseille, en passant par Smyrne, Athènes, Paris, Berlin, Munich, car Alexandrie figure le tableau vivant du siècle dernier. Ce fut la patrie perdue d’esprits internationalistes de toutes origines, le parfum extatique de la Méditerranée. « J’ai souhaité transmettre une atmosphère pour que le lecteur perçoive quelques vignettes et, peut être, l’âme d’un monde englouti depuis très longtemps ».

Dimitris STEFANAKIS, écrivain grec, est né en 1961, il a fait des études de droit à l’Université d’Athènes. Après ses études, il a travaillé comme traducteur d’œuvres littéraires. 
Il a publié six romans très bien accueillis par le public et la critique  notamment Fruits de Saison en 2000, Appelle-moi Caïre en 2002 ou L’œil de la Révolution a de l’achromatopsie en 2005. 
Mais le livre qui lui a consacré toute sa place dans la littérature néo-hellénique, est une fresque intitulée Jours d’Alexandrie en 2007, tirée à plus de 30000 exemplaires. Son avant dernier roman, en épelant l’été en 2009, avec Albert CAMUS, comme protagoniste, a également connu un succès particulier. Son dernier livre est un roman sur LEONIDAS, le roi spartiate. Celui-ci paraitra en France sous le titre Le Roi solitaire.

Three emblematic figures are the conductors: Antonis HARAMIS, the Greek from the poor backgrounds of Athens, who became the richest tobacco industrialist in Egypt; Elias KHOURI, the "Lebanese", manipulator and polyglot and Yvette SANTON, his accomplice, a free woman of French origin.

Chronicle of three generations, each embracing a period of world history, up to Nasser's rise to power and the nationalizations that followed.

We travel from Constantinople to Marseille, via Smyrna, Athens, Paris, Berlin, Munich, because Alexandria is the living picture of the last century. It was the lost homeland of internationalist spirits of all backgrounds, the ecstatic scent ofthe Mediterranean."I wanted to convey an atmosphere so that the reader perceives some vignettes and, perhaps, the soul of a world submerged for a very long time".

Dimitris STEFANAKIS, Greek writer, was born in 1961, he studied law at the University of Athens. After his studies, he worked as a translator of literary works.
He has published six novels very well received by the public and the critics,   notably Fruits de Saison in 2000, Call me Caïre in 2002 or L'œil dethe revolutionhas achromatopsia in 2005.
But the book that gave it its full place in neo-Hellenic literature is a fresco entitled Days of Alexandria in 2007, printed in more than 30,000 copies. His penultimate novel, spelling summer in 2009, with Albert CAMUS as the protagonist, also enjoyed particular success. His latest book is a novel about LEONIDAS, the Spartan king. This will appear in France under the title Le Roi solitaire.
